Wow, what a word. Just when you think you have it bad, others have it worse. I mean really, it isn’t all that bad. Can you imagine losing your house to a fire? I mean everything, and having nowhere to go? Some of these people in California amaze me. Ive been watching CNN with people sifting through the ruble that once was their home and memories and they cry and in the same breath say that its just a home, they can rebuild again. Where do they get the strength? I am not allowed to boo hoo anymore. I am so done! I will go on and wherever my family is, that is where my home will be. Closing in on our move. Let’s be grateful and happy for what we have!
And just when the world is looking bleak, you get a story like this: My mother-in-law volunteers at Mission of Mercy (it is a non-profit mobile medical clinic for uninsured working poor, homeless and economically disadvantaged people ) the people that work there are angels Anyways, on of the nurses that works there has been helping this homeless man for about 5 years now.. giving him food, helping him with shelter, taking him to church etc…. he passed away last week and get this, he was a millionaire! He left the clinic $400,000, and some to the Salvation Army, and a undisclosed amount to her! The news crew was there interviewing her….. Wow. Makes me tear up. My husband and I help the homeless every year. We save our change, and give it to them around Christmas. I know it doesn’t sound like alot, but it sure adds up! If you have any feel good story to share, I would love to hear it. I think we need more of them on the news. Well, back to packing, sorting and getting my house together. Found this beautiful vintage baby bonnet today and the children’s book all for 2.50.

Oh what a wonderful story of giving. I’ve been watching the stories of the fire on the news and it is just amazing how everyone is pulling together to help each other out. Times like this really let you know how caring people can be. And like you, I am going to stop the boo-hooing around here too and be grateful for what I have everyday!

The fires in California are terrible and my heart breaks for the families who’ve lost their homes. What a great story about the homeless man leaving such a generous bequest. I don’t have any amazing stories to share but I can say that all year I save soaps, shampoos, toothpaste, toothbrushes, etc. and bag sets of them to hand out to the homeless people standing on street corners begging. A small thing but it makes me feel like I’m helping a bit.

what a neat story….that is soo amazing. I think I read somewhere that some homeless people make about 70,000 a year….I don’t know how true that is but is was on 20/20 one time. Your mil is a true angel.
I can’t imagine what if would be like to lose your home..My brother was one of the unlucky ones this time. My mother( who was a major photographer, she took tons and tons of photos of us growing up)was living with him and they lost their home in the witch creek fire, the one in Ramona, near San Diego. I just keep hoping that they had time to get all those precious photos out. I read in the Sunday LA times of a couple in Ramona that didn’t have time to evacuate and they hid in their swimming pool and the fire burned all around them..they had to keep getting their hair wet to keep from burning. Their neighbors weren’t so lucky. It’s sooo sad.
I do hope when you come back to Calif I can take a class from you I live on the Border of LA and Orange county but would love to come visit you at Sweetpeas..love that store.

Thanks for the wonderful story. I love happy stories. My heart hurts so for the people in California who have lost their homes to the fires. I had to stop watching the news because I could help crying everytime I saw stories about the fires. It’s just too sad.

What a lovely story! I’m glad that he had someone in his life like your Aunt who is willing and able to help those who need it. The world would be so much sweeter if there were more sweet Aunties out there to lift up the needy.
Your heart piece is divine…it’s really well done!
